Mmmm coffee…

Posted by Dan Hertz on November 12, 2004

So I’ve been having to live pretty much without coffee for the last couple of days because we ran out at home (horror of horrors!). We still had decaf, which is all well and good, but I had to admit that drinking coffee in the morning is one of the greater pleasures of which I know in life. Also, it is an unfortunate fact that the type of coffee I use for regular (Ring of Fire) is better than the Organic French Roast Decaf. I usually mix the two for mornings (unless it’s been a really rough night and I need the pure caffeinated variety), and it just tastes a lot richer and fuller than the straight decaf stuff does.
Oh well. I still think that most of my coffee addiction has to do with the flavor and general comfort associated with drinking hot coffee. And as vices go, it’s a pretty harmless one.

In any case, I went to Greenstar last night and got more coffee (and granola, those two being foods on which our house depends, seemingly), and so all is now well in the world again.

Where do we go from here?

Posted by Dan Hertz on November 5, 2004

That’s basically the question I’ve been asking myself since Tuesday night, and I haven’t really come up with an answer. I’m trying not to get overwhelmed with despair about the direction our country is going to be headed in, but it’s difficult. How did it come to this?

Anyway someone commented that I hadn’t written anything since the election, which is probably mainly because of my feelings of devastation, disillusionment and disheartenment.
But now I’ve written again, so there you go.

More positive posts to follow soon, hopefully.

I’m really nervous…

Posted by Dan Hertz on November 3, 2004

Ok, so watching the election results is killing me. I’m really nervous and feeling alternately jittery and on edge, and incredibly tired.
I don’t want to imagine what things will be like if we have another four years under Bush… I guess it’s all down to Ohio.
And yes, I’m not feeling very coherent and able to express myself in an eloquent manner, so I’m going to stop writing stuff now.

Monday morning thoughts

Posted by Dan Hertz on November 1, 2004

So now it’s November, whatever that all may mean. Only two weeks until my birthday, and I don’t really know what I should be doing to celebrate. I guess that right now I’m mainly dwelling on the question of what’s going to happen tomorrow in the election.
I was really discouraged hearing a short piece on voter disenfranchisement on the radio this morning. Apparently people have been distributing false flyers in various places telling people that they have to bring proof that they’ve paid parking tickets and various other things to the polls with them. Somewhere else, people were being told that the polls were going to be staying open an extra day because of the high expected voter turn-out; Republicans were supposed to vote on Tuesday and Democrats on Wednesday. The story is at Democracy Now. It’s the first story listed on their headlines for today.

Score one for democracy, I guess…
