The shortest day of the year…
started a little while ago. It’s encouraging that it’s going to be getting lighter from now on, though.
Being back in Denmark for Christmas is nice in many ways, but I am struck by the fact that the day is two hours shorter than it is in Ithaca right now. I must say that I’m continually amused by people who talk about Ithaca being so dark in the winter; they really have no idea. I suppose the same could be said about me by someone from northern Norway, of course, or even Oslo or Stockholm, presumably.
Having said all that, I must admit that it’s a fair bit brighter here than it could be, since there’s some snow on the ground. I think people often don’t realize how much of a difference that makes. But then, most people don’t realize that there isn’t usually snow in Denmark.
Since I’m now supposedly lazing around a bit at my parents’ over the holidays, I should be updating this blog more often… but who knows.
