For those of you who read this blog and are worried about the precarious state of my health, I can reveal that my teeth are now all happy again. I went to the dentist this morning and had them take off a little bit more of the fillings that were put in last week with the result that I’m now no longer in pain.
Makes for a nice change.

Ultimate season
Posted by Dan Hertz on May 26, 2006
is upon us again. I’ve been enjoying playing pickup a couple times a week the last few weeks and have broken in my cleats again. They seem to be beginning to fall apart in some places, though, so it looks like I’ll have to invest in some new ones at some point. Overall I can’t complain, though, as I’ve had them for close to three years now.
This weekend promises to be beautiful weather-wise, which is good, but campus and Ithaca in general will be absolutely swamped with people here for graduation. I’m not sure what Beth and I will be doing, but I suspect it will involve staying away from campus and collegetown as much as possible.
I had a couple of things done to my teeth yesterday, which generally went well, but I think I need to go back and have them take off a bit of the filling in one or two places; it feels a little odd when I close my teeth. My dentist isn’t in on Fridays, though, so I’ll wait until Tuesday to call and see about dropping by to have him take a look at it. Dentistry sounds like a pretty nice lifestyle in some ways, I have to say. Being able to choose to work four days a week sounds awfully nice. Perhaps when Beth is done with her residency, we’ll be able to settle down to a more relaxed lifestyle. For the moment it’s not like we can arbitrarily decide to slow down the pace of things. Well, this summer should be slower and more relaxed, but once the semester starts up again, things will become moderately crazy I am sure.
I’m trying to decide what to think about the verdict in the Enron trial. I’m obviously glad that they were found guilty (although that didn’t ever really seem to be in serious doubt, but having listened to Democracy Now this morning, I’m left with the feeling that there are a lot of other people who managed to avoid being held accountable at all. This company did essentially gouge Californians out of nine billion dollars, and no-one seems to be trying to make anyone pay that back.

Inspiration
Posted by Dan Hertz on May 24, 2006
I’m hoping to be inspired by Jason’s recent habit of trying to post something to his blog on a near-daily basis. I’m not sure I’ll actually be able to do this, but I’ll see how it goes.
I seem to be having some trouble getting the formatting of my blog to work out properly in terms of what is shown in the sidepane and so on. I’m not sure how much I really care, of course, but it could well be worth getting it decent. Who knows, then maybe people will actually read it? Seems unlikely, though.
I just got a call from Jess informing that she survived her sky-diving adventure. I’m not quite sure I’m ready to try something like that. She said it was fun, but it didn’t really sound like it was that much fun, so I’m not sure it’s really for me. I’ll stick to risking life and limb playing ultimate, I think. I am planning on trying to do more of that, however. One goal for the summer is to be able to lay out properly. It’s imperative that I be able to do this without risking dislocating my shoulder again, of course.
The main news at the moment is that Beth is in town, which is always a good thing. Next week we’ll be moving in to Mary’s apartment for next year (it’s a June lease, so we’re staying there for a couple of months), which will be very nice.
Ok, I’m going to do actual stuff now.

ouch
Posted by Dan Hertz on May 11, 2006
Blisters are painful, as I’ve just been reminded. Yesterday I played ultimate for the first time in ages, which was a lot of fun. I’m pretty out of shape, though, which is discouraging, but getting back into things is probably the best way to overcome that.
Anyway, now having worn my cleats in eight months or something, it seems that I developed a few blisters on my feet. Walking seems like a painful prospect, but I’ll have to see how things work out.
