How the US Military just reeks of class…
Apparently, the US military is having a hard time getting enough bad press lately or something, because for some reason a lot of recruiters are seeing the need to sexually assault or otherwise harass young girls they’re trying to recruit for the service. This story is just kind of disappointing, I guess, although not really surprising in some ways. But the idea of military recruiters going to high schools and meeting 16-18 year old girls who are interested in joining the military, and then sexually assaulting them in their cars or apartments… wow, that’s just classy on a level that I hadn’t really thought about.
Anyway, apparently it’s only about 100 girls or so… in the last year. Apparently they don’t really prosecute the offenders very heavily either. This seems like the kind of thing that must just be great for recruiting numbers?
I wonder if the people who did the study are going to get into trouble for damaging the image of the military. It could be harmful to our recruiting numbers, after all. I would hope it would be, in any case. And no, I know they won’t, since the information was released under the Freedom of Information Act and whatnot, but it still seems like the sort of thing that some people might suggest was better if left unpublicized.
